On Labor Day I went detecting all day in a city I have done very well at over the years. This hunt was one of the best I have had in years in terms of qty and variety of the good stuff!

First stop was at a dog park at 6:30am before the dogs started showing up. First hole was a sterling ring. The ground was surprisingly bone dry and like concrete in some areas but also surprisingly my Equinox was picking up signals in areas that I have gridded and regridded over the years. Next good find was a 1907 V and 1918 S Buff in the same hole.

I moved onto a small unnamed park that I discovered and found a few wheats. Then I got a 1944 P War nik to complete my first trifecta of the day. I was pretty happy and it was not 10am yet.

I spent another hour there and got a deep 28-29 signal and out popped a smooth SLQ. With my favorite coin type found I was completely satisfied with the day.

I then ventured over to "Morgan" Park where I have found some very old stuff. After 90 minutes I had 3 Indians (1907 and 2 1867's) and a fantastic 1857 Flying Eagle! One of the 1867 Indians was damaged back in the day pretty bad but the other 1867 is in awesome shape...and so is the Flying Eagle! I just took my finger nail and removed the dirt and then the oil from my fingers made the date and words show up really nice. That completed my 2nd trifecta of the day! This is the 3rd FE I have found this year and all from this park!

Near the end of my hunt I visited a school site that I had found a couple Indians and mercs in the past. I only had 30 minutes or so left before I planned to go home. I found a couple wheats right away and then came across a sweet 35/36 signal. I was shocked to find a 1910 Barber Half! Just my 2nd one ever. A few steps over and I got a 1963d Rosie.

Congrats on the double trifecta, Jared! Lots of wonderful finds there. The Flying Eagle Cent is terrific, so often they are toasted but yours is very decent. I'm still looking for my first. That 1867 Indian Head is a real looker! It must have been an early drop. Sharp detail!

The Barber Half is a super find also! They don't turn up often. It's always a nice surprise when big silver pops up like that.

Can't forget the SLQ, they are always a blast to find!

:congrats:

We could have but these were found in a city 2 hours away from where we met up. Lots of OLD homes in this area too... you guys would do well door knocking I am sure.

Without getting too specific yes these were from 2 city parks, 1 school and 1 fairgrounds in an urban area that I would consider big. But I am from the country so big is relative.

Here are a couple close ups of the Flying Eagle. I gently scraped some dirt off and then I lightly rubbed it with my fingers. The remaining dirt on it makes the letters and other details show up nicely so I will leave it alone. The dark green is the patina which I do not want to remove.

Always up for a drive if it gets ya flying eagle! I've only gotten one and it was in an obviously hit yard. Only signal were the odd ball ones.

Great hunt Jared! You should retire after that day! As I say in golf once in a while, you "nutted" it. Pun intended....
