Spent a couple of hours at my "peace and quiet" site. It's very small but it is right up against a swamp and there is no trail leading into it. I get skunked as often as not but I did manage a button and a brass ramrod tip today.

When I got home I remembered I had found the barrels of a pistol a few years back at the same site. Just for the heck of it, I had to see if it would fit.

Fancy little button too.

Nice finds. What does the other side of the button look like?

Thanks Gents.

Nice finds. What does the other side of the button look like?

It looks almost exactly like the front side. Looks like it was stamped from the back side.

First ramrod tip I have seen dug. Great find.

Now that you mention it Donnie, I can't recall seeing many dug either. I have a broken ramrod shaft with just the screw threads but missing the cap.

I would not be surprised if you had one or two in your vast pile of odds and ends Drew.

Jeff , two questions after some observations ….

Looking at the gun barrels they seem very thinned walled to accept round ball ammunition , they seem more like shotgun barrels which wouldn't need a ramrod to force small shot down it .
question #1 . how long is the barrels piece in your hand ?
the ramrod end looks broken
question #2 is there any odd marks (file or tooled ) as this end piece needed to be secured or attached to the wooden shaft I would assume by a small metal pin to keep the shaft from coming out of the barrel with out the tip.

Dan the barrels are 4 1/2 inches long. I assumed they came from a double barreled pistol. I would agree they would not be firing a large single round ball from each barrel. I guess just a coincidence the barrel and the ramrod attachment were the same circumference.

The ramrod shaft is broken at the end. I can't tell how it would have been secured to something. Even if they poured shot down the barrel, wouldn't you have to stuff a wad of some sort down the barrel to keep the shot from rolling out?
