I am heading up to my cottage over Memorial Day to relax and plan to do alot of detecting. I have been very fortunate with this place and have found lots of examples of War of 1812 era buttons and so I thought I would make a contest so that someone else could have one of these buttons.

The rules will be simple. Just reply to this thread and that will be your entry. I will take all the names and then pull a name out of a hat or something and that person will be the winner. 1 entry per person. I will pull a name on the 26th or so.

The winner will get the first button I find. Ideally I hope to BARELY confirm that I found a military button and put it in a plastic baggie with the soil and NOT clean or reveal exactly what it is and then send it to the winner that way. I think that would be a bit more fun. Maybe beep the box I send it in, open it up, take your pinpointer to confirm it is in baggie, and then reveal it and do whatever you want with it (it is your button so you can do whatever you to do with it).

If I do not find any then I will take a nice example of one from my collection.

I think I covered all the bases. Hope I don't get sick and can't go!

Hope you all enjoy this contest. Jared

Thank you Jared. I am in! Have fun "up North" or at least that is what we call it in WI.

No more entries are allowed.

I just found the first military button of the hunt and it's a beauty! I will post the winner in a couple days.

Also just found my oldest coin! Love this place!

I took the reply number next to each entry and then rolled a dice. And the winner is...

a 5 was rolled so Tony 2 Cent is the winner!

Just PM me an address and I'll send it your way. When I found it I took a pic of it in the ground and then put it in a zip lok bag with some of the dirt. You get to clean it up...it won't take much. Please post a pic of it when you get it as I think it's a really good example. Enjoy and congrats!

Great contest Jared. Sorry I missed it!

Tony I will trade you 10 dirty mercs and stack of dateless nickels for that button. ;)

Here is a sneak peek at Tony's button. I am sure many of you will guess as to what it is but here is was in the dirt pile. I am confident that it will be a "1 wiper".

Well, looky what arrived today!

As instructed, I ran my E-trac over the packet before I opened it. It rang up a solid 12-32 from every direction, which would be a low Indian Head type signal on the E-Trac. A couple of times it did jump up to 12-33.

The button did arrive with some of the dirt still stuck to the front.

HOLY COW, I AM FLOORED! I never thought I would own one of these in my life! And just look at the condition! All I did was lightly brush the dirt off.

Jared, I can't even begin to know how to thank you for this. It exceeded my wildest expectations. We don't find these here in Illinois. Such an incredible piece of history, I can't wait to show it to my family. I almost feel guilty for winning it. I wish more people would have entered.

Thank you, Jared!!! :notworthy:
