Hey everyone, I find these little guys from time to time. They show up at old timey sites but look plastic. Anyone know what they're made of...or what they buttoned?

In 1840, milk glass buttons, simple utilitarian two to four hole sew through styles of opaque white pressed glass, began to replace brass and gilt buttons in men's wear.

I knew they always come from sites that predate plastic.

Nice milk glass button! These were mostly used to button henways back in the 1800's.

I think porcelain buttons were early 1800's as well. But you would never find them on a henway.

yes porcelain and "milk glass" buttons date much older than the late Georgian period

I've had those on shirts as well as underware when I was a CW Re-enactor.
