Last couple of hunts: That ancient pocket knife has a wooden handle. Whizzer has 4 holes like a button.....maybe it is a button ?? Nice little cloak clasp and one loop.

Came across the remains of a big buck. No doubt shot but not recovered. Coyotes left just skin and gristle. Big 8 pointer with a wide rack.

I never know if those are whizzers or buttons. I'd guess whizzers have two holes, and they're further apart, but what do I know :dontknow:
Why do you think the deer was shot. Jeff?
Best of luck to you and your family this year :beerbuddy:

Thanks Drew, you too! The buck was shot because it had a nice rack. Unfortunately the hunter couldn't track it for some reason. There were several tree stands in the area. That button/whizzer is very thin and flimsy. Not sure it would have been a useful button. It was actually folded into quarters when I found it.

Just a passing thought. Hooked device looks like a boat cloak clasp from the British Scots Guards Regiment. The thistle in the clasp is what keyed my observation. Don't know where you detect, but it may be associated somehow. Scots Guards served in America during the revolution.

Interesting observation Seaborne. Just so happens that cloak clasp was found at a colonial site about 15 miles from Newport RI.....which of course had a large occupation of British forces during the Rev War.

I'm digging that cloak clasp , is it silver washed as it looks it in the picture? That was a really good sized deer :shocked03:

I agree, whizzers usually only have two holes that are further apart. I think this is a button.

Good catch on the cloak clasp with a thistle on it! I'd say there is a chance that it is from the British Scots Guards Regiment like Seabornescout mentioned.

:congrats:
