Finally got out for a hunt Sunday. I am feeling it today. I hiked to a cellar hole and was hoping to find the last piece of a fancy broken shoe buckle that I have been finding pieces of over the years right near the lip. Found a rusted iron shoe buckle instead along with a rusted blade, fork and file. Also dug up a couple of pieces of chinking right near the lip that are probably at least 200 years old.

the iron will be sounding really good for a while until the ground dries out some but iron shoe buckles are always a welcome sight to me , congrats on your first one this year !

BTW , I sooooo wanted to get out Sunday but the 11 hour drive from NC to Ct Saturday into Sat. night was just too draining !

Love the iron buckle. Will you do electrolysis on it? What is the chinking made of? I think that's pretty cool it lasted longer than the logs!

Wow, don't recall coming across the fill between logs. Must be an old site. Never found an iron shoe buckle either. Too bad you didn't catch the ubiquitous spoon for an entire dinner set

Dan 20 years ago you would have driven 18 hours the day before then got up at 3:00 AM, hiked 10 miles into a site, swung that heavy DFX for 12 straight hours then hiked back out in the dark. I agree about the moisture, also hunting with the high frequencies makes the "long" iron sound even better.

Yeah nothing fancy about this site Todd. Just a hollow in the ground.

There may be just enough meat left on that buckle for electrolysis. The chinking was my favorite find of the day. They made it out of clay, sand, ash, lime, and in this case crushed sea shells seemed to be added to the mix. The site is only a couple miles from a bay.

I've seen tiny bits of chinking before Drew but never chunks. Fairly old site. Coinage dates between KGI and 1803 DB. Yes, a nice rat tail spoon would have rounded out the hunt. ;)

Any US silver, or gold come out of that site before? Just need to know if it's worth breaking into your home...... :hystericallaugh:
