Not found by me lol but found by a friends father in law in 1969. Looks like some kind of older White's unit (maybe a Goldmaster 66TR 4B)?? Found in the greater Springfield, MA area. This was from an 8x10 black and white photo. Thought you might like to see what the ponds and lakes were giving up back in the good ol' days  :crying02: Quality of pics is not that great, but some of the close ups can give you an idea of what was found.

Oh man, those were the days. lol John (midas) had excellent results like that in the early 70's and 80's while shallow water detecting.

What if they had the detectors that we now enjoy back then?

What a shame that there is no virgin ground left! I knew guys who measured thier silver coin finds by the pound. It's no wonder that most of the original detectorists have no desire to go back out swinging.

All the easy sites are hit, and you have to work harder at finding the deep ones. But there is also a lot more information available to locate old, non obvious places. Just look at how the Internet has made research more accessible. We can't just go to our local park and hit 20 silver coins, all 4 and above, in one day, but we can still find some virgin ground. It's just a lot harder now :crying02:

I don't know that I agree.

The detectorists from those days that refuse to detect now, wanted it easy, and no other way. Then there are those detectorists -- who I shall leave nameless -- who still love the hobby for the hobby, not for pounds of silver, and who did the work to keep finding the silver even though it's hard now.

George, those are great photos! I can't imagine finding that many rings in one or two trips. If you want my honest opinion, it would spoil me.

Oh man I love me some Scrooge McDuck comics...

Those finds are insane. I often wonder where the popularity of the hobby will go. I thinkt he high price of gold right now has more people interested. Silver coins are great but it takes a heck of a lot of them to equal the dollar value of one gold ring.
