Hunted a site today that has been hit pretty hard. My good finds were a small harness buckle, part of a spoon or fork, a rolled copper point and the smallest button I have ever found. It just covers the head on a Lincoln penny. It's a two piece and still has the shank. I wonder what it would have been used for?

Seems like an older site. I hope someone knows what that button was used for. Nice find!

It is a mixed site. The button is 1840s or newer while the rolled copper point is late 1700s.

What is that rolled copper used for?

They were made by Native Americans in the very late 1700s. Some, like this one were used as arrowheads while others with a hole in the small end were tinklers, worn on the clothing. They would hiy each other during a dance thus the name tinkler.

Wow, that is a small button. Could it have been used as a cuff link maybe? It has some fancy on it. The object in the middle of the button looks like an Asian character.

I will try to clean the button and get a better picture of it. I think it is too small to be a cuff link. I lost it in my finds bag and had to turn the bag upside down on a towel and knock all the dirt and dust out before I could locate it.

This is as clean as it is going to be. I have been told it could be a child's clothing button, a doll button, shoe or glove button.

It has been IDed as a woman's shoe button. They measure 8.5mm as does this one.

The rolled copper point caught my attention right away. Nice find! That button is tiny ! I wasn't aware that the 1970 Lincolns had a double die variety until I saw your pic. ;)

Only if you're an old man who can't hold a camera steady! I would be rich if all the coins I took pictures of were really double dies!

I believe that is a glove button rather that a shoe button, which were even smaller than that one.
