I heard about nipple buttons and thought they looked familiar and I thought I might have found some...so I started sorting my buttons today. No nipples BUT I did find a Barber dime, Connecticut CW era button, my Phoenix Haitian 1810-1820 military button, my 1880 Garfield and Arthur campaign button, a cut copper, a few 1600s pewter buttons, and a slew of buttons with cloth still on them.

Nice! Always amazes me when there is still thread in the shank.

That Phoenix button was sure a nice find Drew. I love finding buttons with the thread in the shank. My USA button still has some blue fibers on it. Not sure I ever mistook a Barber dime for a button though. ;)

Thanks for the link. Now I have to look through all my buttons hoping I might have one.

I have only found one Nipple button and it was at the Pine Tree Shilling site. That makes perfect sense since Nipple buttons are securely dated by archaeologists to circa 1650 in Thames River deposits.70165
