It is a beautiful spring-like day here today so I took my E-Trac to a nearby beanfield that I have detected several times before. This time I tried a different area of the field where I noticed there were a lot of rocks and bricks.

After a couple of hours I had only found a 1940 Wheat Cent and I was about to give up and go home when I got a screaming 12-47 signal. I dug down only a couple of inches and found a large round disc that I immediately thought must be a Large Cent! It is totally roached from the fertilizers but I can clearly see the date of 1828. Pretty cool, even if it's in terrible shape.

Not 5 minutes later I got another screaming 12-47 signal and found a silver quarter! It ended up being in very decent shape for a field find. Oddly enough, I have only found 2 silver coins in this field and both of them were SLQs!

Only my 10th Large Cent ever. I was shocked when I saw it in the dirt!

Very happy with this SLQ. I hadn't found a 1930 before.

I really like this enamel brooch. It looks art deco to me.

I have no idea what this is but it has hand-tooling on it.

Great, Tony! Nice date on the quarter too! The LC date looks like it would go away if you tried to clean it.

Awesome finds, Tony! This may sound crazy but tumble that largie with some wheat cents for about 30 minutes and see if it don't look much better.

Nice! I know the LCs don't come easy in your neck of the woods.

Great finds Tony! Just proves persistence sometimes really pays off. Those LCs really are hard to come by in the Midwest, and I've only ever found 2 US LCs. First one found was insanely deep (~24") at the bottom of a ditch, another just under the grass along a cemetery road-go figure. They are that memorable. Your SLQ is in really great condition too with that date being really nice. The brooch is pretty cool too. Not sure about art deco, but more likely Victorian or even Art Nouveau.

That's a good day for sure Tony. I'm still waiting on my 1st large cent, it's out there somewhere waiting on me, and them I have no idea what they are can sure drive ya nuts.
