Old, abandoned drive-in movie theaters can be a coinshooter's paradise.

This podcast (radio show you can listen to anytime on your computer) is a look at the history of drive-in theaters, their rise and fall, and the two main reasons they are now nearly extinct.

And some suggestions on how to find those old, dilapidated screens and concession stands that lie forgotten, patiently waiting to be rediscovered by the persistent coinshooter.

I have hunted old drive ins in the past and while there are old coins to be had hunting these sites it is not for the faint of heart,or for the impatient person. Can you say flattened bottle top crowns and pull tabs!!!! Literally thousands upon thousands of them....it's crazy hunting but lots of potential if you're in the mood.

Indeed, lots of junk, but I hunted one in Ringoes, New Jersey and found hundreds of keepers. Patience and time is the answer.

It would probably be easier to use a shovel and screen.

lol that's a good idea. I thought about that too while digging nails and snips of alum siding around edge of old houses. I'm imagining all the gravel at the drive-in. But then there's lots of grassy areas too...
