Ahhh the old Mass cent. I had a hard time finding one. I found a beat up Mass half cent and then finally found this one cent version. I had many Connecticut cents, but just couldn't land one of these. Here it is. Also if you ever want to look over people's finds, we have a section here to create or look over member's albulms. It's under media in the top title bar. Click there and then on a lower title bar hit albulms (next to home). From there you can pick who's albulm you want to see or create your own.

Thanks, I believe it was holed with a square nail and put above the door of the house (or in some other location). This was done a lot in these parts when you built your house. Also the approximate date of the foundation and the fact that it was a military man (hence the choice of coin- the eagle), leads me to believe this was the coin to signify the start of the home. House probably burned down and left this coin in the ash and brick. That also explains the nice condition of it and some of the small round nodules that form during a fire.

I have one here somewhere. If I find it I will bury it and dig it up lol I have seen some people closer to Boston Mass find some. It is a true rarity to find detecting though. I live relatively close to a Connecticut town that manufactured what's called a Higley copper (1737). I searched for a long time to get one of those. Never did rofl
