It was early morning and I was still half asleep, so I picked up a hot cup of coffee to perk me up and headed to the park for some relaxing detecting time. And hopefully to dig up a silver coin or two.

I have been hitting the trashier parts of this particular park and have been doing well with the silver. Still, I had no expectation of reaching the 400 silver coin mark today. But, though it took me the better part of the day, I did meet my goal! I picked up the seven silver coins I still needed to reach the 400 silver coin mark.

This was my first silver coin, a 1940-S mercury dime.

After covering the hole I dropped my towel to mark the spot and began to circle outward around it. Doing this allowed me to pick up a few wheat cents and two more mercury dimes, dated 1925 and 1942.

Satisfied that I had covered that section well, I grabbed my towel and began walking toward one of the large trees near one of the paths. When close to it I locked on to another good tone from among the noisy trash and dug up another mercury dime, dated 1941-D. That made four silver coins within the first 50 minutes.

Here is the 1941-D mercury dime while in the hole.

It would be another 90 minutes before I would hit on another silver coin, a 1945 mercury dime.

The 1945 merc.

More than an hour later I dug up a 1944 Washington quarter and, just before calling it quits, I hit on a 1946 Roosevelt dime, making it my 400th silver coin of the year!

Here is today's silver.

The park also yielded several wheat cents.

Here is a sampling of the type of trash littering the area I was covering.

He promised he would video it. If it isn't forthcoming then I'll reset his goal to 450 to allow for another opportunity.

Congrats Angel, that is an amazing amont of silver finds for a single year. I would have never thought it was possible after so many years that detecting has been around. You really should consider writing a Book on the E-trac.

I did do a bit of a dance guys. Thankfully there was no one around to see my inebriated missteps.

The one area the machine has opened up for me, to a greater extend than other machines I've used, is the ability to work very trashy areas much more successfully. I have found 100+ silver coins in four of the past five years, 162 in 2005, 155 in 2006, and 118 in 2007, for example, but this year has been quite exceptional.

SWEET!! That's quite a year you've had so far. Now you can relax  unless Angie sets a goal of 425 for ya. :shocked04: It never ends!!

She set a goal of 450. :shocked04: I quit!

I forgot to record the dance. I was too busy taking photos of the finds. :angelic: You believe me, right?

Thanks Jason! I'm with you, I would not have thought it possible if I had been asked last year, unless the coins were to be found as part of a cache. It does go to show, though, that many parks can still yield some very nice finds. :)

Angel, is the YouTube video of finding 400 silver you?

I've never heard of anyone else claiming to find 400 in a year. The videoagrapher claims to have hit 300 as well.

I believe he is from the Chicago area. His name is Greg aka Goio. If you look under 219erman on youtube you will find the video.

That's one heck of a silver count! Are you going to go for 450? 500? :) Do you get snow in your area or do you get to hunt year round?

Oh, we get plenty of snow in the New England area. This November has been a good one, though, since it has remained relatively warm and with no snow in sight. It translates to more detecting time. I do hope to add a few more silver coins to this year's total before the snow starts to pile up.

A very big congratulations to you, Angellionel...
Your detecting abilities truely are an inspiration to many of us.
I, also, don't know or have heard of anyone claiming so many silver coins in one season.
It's a fantastic accomplishment. I only wish I could set such a high goal.
Big pat on the back for you!
