Couldn't find any reference to the HD. If it's really 18K and not a plating, then the HD may be the maker's mark. Just a guess though.

it would have to be a makers mark without seeing it.. it could stand for harley davidson or heavy duty... could stand for harry douglas current atlanta falcon wide receiver. probably not could stand for hands down . as in a hands down good find ... thumbsup01

Howdy Pard!
A gold ring is a gold ring. Don't fret too much about the HD. I figure it to be the maker's mark.
If it were plated, I'd expect to see HGE (heavy gold electroplate) or GE (gold electroplate).
When all else fails, take it to a pawn shop and ask them Is this worth anything?

It's a cheap and easy way to verify whether you got the real deal, which I believe you do.

Best of luck amigo, but I believe you scored an 18k gold ring!

Blessings,
M-Taliesin

Howdy Jim!
Just one other idea I'd like to pitch out there to you. You can get an acid test kit for about 15 bucks or so, comes with a scratch stone and 3 acids for the most popular karat weights. Mine has 10k, 14k and 18k acids.

If you had one of them around, you could test your gold and save some angst about whether you got the real deal or not. Gold electroplate won't show up like real gold. And it won't hold up to the acid test. Same goes for any other variant, such as Gold filled.

The acid test can give you almost immediate results on whether you scored gold, or just another interesting piece of costume. I say almost immediate, because I don't know anybody that carries that kit with them in the field.

Blessings,
M-Taliesin
