I just thought I'd share this... not every day that any of my finds would ever end up in a magazine, but my 2 reale found this year made it on the cover of Ohio Metal Detecting magazine... I wasn't expecting it, but a friend of mine on another forum develops a quarterly magazine for Ohio detectorists with some neat articles and ohio finds. I was looking at some pictures of his past and present magazines and couldn't believe that my find had been featured on the cover! I asked him about it and he sent me a copy of the magazine for free... Also within it, was a wonderful write-up on our Clad for Kids project! He did an excellent job of telling the story and meaning behind it. Very nice stuff... Something for my kids to look at when I'm old and gray I guess.. ;) Here's the cover!!!

Old Spanish silver coins... mine was 1793. They came in various versions and sizes.. from 1/2 reale up to 8 reale (also known as piece of 8 )... The guys in the Northeast find them more than we do in Ohio and it will most likely not happen to me again...but I can always hope!

Yup...same thing. The reale dates way back earlier than the one I found.

The Reale was actually legal tender up till the middle 1800's in the U.S.

Yeah It's a good magazine! He was handing out copies at the DFXonly hunt last spring. A lot of cool articles. Even had a article about the history of the pull tab. To help you date a area your detecting. Pretty cool. I should subscribe to that magazine too... :thinkingabout:

I apologize.. My name is Brian. I keep forgetting that there are so many new members on here that don't know all of us that have been around for a while. I'll try to remember that. The name Beefcake came about tongue n cheek... I'm far from a Beefcake... more like the character Cartman from southpark.
