Found this yesterday and can't figure it out. A book marker for a bible crossed my mind but it's awful thick for that :dontknow: it was only about 3 deep, but it's obviously very old... I found it at James Lane Allen's estate. It would be neat to link it to him. Maybe a money clip?

Howdy Friend!
That surely is an interesting piece. Have no idea what the image is, nor what use the item might have served.

One observation I did make, it appears that above her head, in what would be her hair, are images of human skulls. That makes this find even more bizarre. Maybe it is just the photos, but it looks like to me there are several skulls that can be seen in the photos just above her head in the hair. Assuming that is hair, of course.

Does it appear similar in the real item, or just a trick of shadows and light in the photos?

Blessings,

I am leaning towards the money clip idea. Those two pieces used to go together I guess??!?

looks like a ladies sash buckle to me , i highlighted the area i see the brazed marks where the other piece attached . the other piece has the tongue and small hook as far as the image looks to be a woman or saintly effigy .

yes it was smooshed and bent that way- the two pieces were definately laying together that way thumbsup01 good eyes Dan! But... I was trying to figure out how the go together and the small hook looked like it would hook over the very top of the main piece. That makes total sense that a sash buckle would attach 'sideways'. I'll google it. Doesn't it look OLD?? :) I would love to put a date/era on it...
