I've always wanted to find an old match box and I finally found one this morning at the park/woods. It's spring loaded and when you press the button it flips open. Right after I found it I could hear the matches rattling around inside and I figured it couldn't be matches they be decomposed by now. I was running my V3i in relic mode with the D2 on it and I got a signal between a huge log (sunken down in the dirt) and about a 4 diameter tree. I was using my relic shovel and started digging between the log and tree, I got down about a foot and still nothing had come out, well I angle the shovel underneath the tree and pushed in and I seen it fall out, the doggone thing was directly under the tree. Needless to say it took me a little while to dig this one out. I didn't stay out there very long today and soon after I dug the match box ice pellets started coming down pretty good so I had to quit.

Them match stick cases are pretty water tight for the most part. I found 2 so far, one had the same type matches (minus the sulphur) and the other has trolley tickets still in them. It's amazing that they can keep them items from rotting :dontknow: If only they had stuck a couple of dollars and maybe a gold coin in it, that would be nice lol Yours has a lot of silver left on it. :clapping: Great find!!

I did get a pic of it before I washed it off, when I washed it off the plating just peeled right off cause of the corrosion between it and the case. I think the case might be copper or maybe brass. There's a cat on it. I couldn't find any writing on it.
