looks like a axe man's wedge to me , we find them from time to time out here too. usually used before the forties because by the time the fifties rolled around heavy machinery was being used to clear the forests . cool find Larry its hard to tell from the photo but the oxknob looks a little to big and almost all the ones we find are threaded inside and have a hole for a setscrew on the side. although i can't completely rule it out . i'm just counting the days to when i finnally get to detect out in them woods :smitten:

that ball thingy looks iron to me.oxknobs are usually brass and like Dan said threaded inside.i don't know what that is? a hitching ball maybe of some sort? :confused:
