I found this traders token dated 1664 at Scrooby in S.Yorkshire which was the home of Pilgrim Father William Brewster and where plans were made to colonize New England,
It was issued by Robert Maltby at Bawtry-a small market town just a couple of miles from Scrooby .
Robert with his brothers William and John was also to leave England for the Americas.
John ,the eldest went first -he was in NewHaven New England in 1664.Jonn died at sea off Long Island in 1676.
William went in1672/3 and went on to become a famous Judge. His gravestone is still intact in the Old Cemetry in Branford New Haven.
Our token issuer Robert arrived in New england in 1672/3 with William and is known to have been in Charleston SC in 1680 but his whereabouts after that are unknow.
As for Robert`s trade token found in Scrooby folded in half and clearly thrown away no doubt whoever had it thought New England a tad too far to go to redeem a halfpenny token.

Wow, a very nice find and very informative story to go with it. Did you unfold the coin yourself or have it professionally done? It looks quite good for having been folded for 100's of years. HH.

Did it myself after a couple of annealings.-they are quite thin and it was folded in a V rather than folded flat.
