Coil Covers - Should you use them?

Does the fact that you have to buy a coil cover separately for your metal detector indicate that the manufacturers think you don't really need one?

Or are they hoping you'll wear a hole in your coil and have to buy a new coil from them?

In this show, I discuss some reasons you should use a coil cover, and some reasons you may not want to use one after all.

I always have used them, here's a few reasons why.

I scrub always on the ground, be it grass or rock. Why put your coil farther away from the targets ?

All concern is gone when covered with a coil, bumps, sticks, etc.

When I detect sand, dirt or even chip bark - I can see where I have been by the contact the coil makes so I don't miss any areas. Especially good to see when a hot spot finds you.

By running the coil on the ground some of the weight is taken off your arm. And wait till you are my age to see if you can still swing in the air for hours :)
