Here is a closeup of the 1818 Large Cent found 4-2-2011 It is in amazing condition considering it probably has been in the ground for the majority of it's 193 years! You can see the hair strands in the Matrons head! The picture does not do justice to the quality of this coin, the patina is beautiful!

Nice close up. I have been trying to nail down the variety and I think it's Breen # 1797 or better yet Newcomb 3. Here is a link to PCGS's varieties of the 1818 Large cent. You can click on each Newcomb variety and compare it to yours. If anything pops up to get you to go to a different section, just close it out :mad: But, pay close attention to two star locations. The first star to the left of the date and the star at the 2 O'clock position (close to the hair bun). Watch where each of them point to. That is why I think it is a scarce variety Newcomb 3. Check all 10 varieties and see what you think. Congrats on a nice coin. |:confused:)
