This little button is just about the size of a nickel. It still has the shank attached and is in very nice shape. I found this little baby in the corn field hunt with Silverstar, Illdigger and friends. We had a lot of fun. I think this button dates from the early to mid 1800s? It is marked Superior Rich on the back and has a wreath floral kinda grapevine pattern on the bottom. I believe the button was made of either brass, nickel, or some non-ferrous metal because it has not degraded or rusted out one bit. Maybe it dates to the Black Hawk War that was fought here in Illinois in 1832 and the next few years. Who knows. Any thoughts Del? Any help would be appreciated.

:omg: :shocked04: wow Ricky that is a great button :perfect10: and one thats on my list to find my friend , i'm very envious :envious: . your historic button is U.S. Riflemen Militia button ( one piece bugle w/tassels with 16 stars) that was being used from 1808-1825 and does classify as a war of 1812 era button :shocked04:  :smitten: |) |) its a great find Ricky ,

(click on the riflemen link on the left and yours is extremely close to the 2nd one from left top row, backmarks may vary.)

where ever you guys found it go back as there could be more ( those uniforms were loaded with buttons ) or other parts of the uniform includinga belt or hat plate . again mega congrats :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:.

p.s. buttons of that era usually hold alot of gold gilt and tend to clean up pretty good too.
