Got this over the weekend. Was wondering if it could be civil war?

it very well could be Al but i would find it very hard to believe that any manly soldier of that era might wear a heart on his heel without being ridiculed by his buddies . i've heard stories that women of ill-repute would wear these to help get clientel (a form of advertising if you will) . if you saw the woman leaving heart shaped tracks in the dirt it might have been a safe bet on her profession.

Del, It's my understanding that different regiments during the civil war wore different shapes, much like a deck of cards, diamonds was for one regiment, hearts for another and so on.

I found a similar one back in November. It is from the CW-era. :cheering: Complete ones are valued at $50 or so. :peace: :perfect10:

The history I found on these was they were not military issued but sold to different corps by an outside distributor. They are indeed civil war period and are common finds especially in camps. The most common found would be the clover. I also have a heart shaped one and I'm thinking Toadman has three heart shaped ones.

I believe they were worn by the ladies of the night and not soldiers. I have found lots of them all different ones and they are all very small. I also believe they were used until the early 1900s. Nice find thumbsup01
