The weather here is horrible, but I was going crazy sitting in the house. So I decided I would go out in the field right beside my house that I have permission to hunt and hunt till I found something to dig not really caring what it was. Stepped into the field , fired up the detector and walked 5 feet and got a strong quarter/ half signal. Popped this penny out of the ground. Said that will do. grabbed up my gear and ran for the house. Was a nice 10 minute hunt, but now I want to go back out. :bangahead01:

Wow, great first hunt!!! How did you muster up the courage to leave lol I would have stayed until my fingers fell off :bangahead01: Great way to start the new year. Congrats, that one looks like it's in really good shape for a field. Usually the fertilizers get them.

This is the 2nd lc I have pulled out of this field. The owner has no tilled the land for at least the last 10years. This is good because the coins do not get scarred from the plows, but picking are getting slim now. I metal detect with the owners son and we are tring to talk him into turning over the ground. LOL we even offered to do it for him, but he is a no till man and doesn't believe in plowing.

Then maybe you can talk him into selling the first 5 of top soil lol Then all those deep coins will be nice and loud, and he can keep the money from the sale of the soil. Sounds like a win, win situation to me

That LC is in beautiful shape! I would have stayed out until I got frostbite, then even longer since I wouldn't be able to feel the pain by that time lol

Great first find for 2010!

That is a great start to the year.I don't think I would have left so soon even if the place is next door to my house.I have a huge farm field I detect that gets turned over twice a year. Some of the copper coins get wasted from the fertilizers but for some strange reason the coins don't get beaten up from the tines. The place has been productive for the past five years.
