The recent rain had kept me from getting out to detect as often as I would like, but today I more than made up for lost time. The site I wanted to work is quite a distance from where I live, so I was up early this morning getting my gear ready and out the door in no time. I arrived at the site at 9:15, but began to detect at about 9:30.

It was a short while before I picked up my first two good targets, a worn 1917 mercury dime and a Indian Head cent. At that point I decided to grid the area, hoping to pick up any deep targets that may be there. After a while I picked up another Indian Head cent and several wheat cents, and then a surprise, a 1803 Draped Bust half cent! :happydance01:

Continuing my grid I dug up a few more wheat cents and another Indian Head cent when I came across one signal that was kind of iffy, but consistent - and deep, it seemed. I dug a deep enough hole, about eight inches, but the probe did not hit on the target. I dug some more, and at about the ten inch mark the probe picked up the slight signal of a target. I made sure to make note where the signal was the strongest and began to dig around it. Then at the twelve inch mark (my 12' digger was all the way in the hole by now) I see the edge of the target. At first I thought it was a large piece of trash metal since the edge seemed very thick. But what a huge surprise I had when I pulled the target out. It was four large cents stuck together! And not only that! They are all Draped Bust large cents! Amazing! A Draped Bust large cents spill! :happydance01:

So far I am able to make out the dates on three of them - 1797, 1797, and 1802. I'm still working on the last one. Here is one of the Draped Bust large cents, dated 1797.

After that spill I also picked up a 1907 Barber dime, a Matron Head large cent, and a King George, which appears to be dated 1752. :thinkingabout: Not quite sure yet.

I then moved on to another section and picked up a few more Indian Head cents and wheat cents. By then I was tired, and so decided to scout out another park before heading home. But once I called Angie to give her an update I decided to remain for another hour before heading home. It actually turned out be 90 minutes, but during that time I picked up three more silver coins, a 1917 mercury dime, a 1899 Barber dime, and a 1861 Seated dime. I called it quits after that.

Here is all the silver together.

And the coppers.

It was fun finding the Indian Head cents too. These six bring my total for the year to 105.

And the rest of today's finds, a skeleton key and several wheat cents.

Is that all you got mister? rofl If you called us about the copper spill we would have hung up on you lol Super hunt Angel. 1797 is a good year with just under 900,000 minted. :clapping: What a copper spill |) The 1803 Half Cent is a great year also, with just 92,000 minted :shocked04: Seems like the long haul was worth it :happydance01: Great silver finds as well.

The second 1797 Draped Bust has a solid date too. I just need to clean off the crusted soil a bit more - carefully of course. Yeah, the long drive was worth it. :smitten:

It was tempting to hang up on him George lol

Just kidding. :happydance01: And that was after the half-cent! I was speechless!! :omg: :omg: That was truly a dream hunt Angel :perfect10: :perfect10:

I know too from talking with you that this park has been hunted out so to speak by many people, as evidenced by the lack of almost all clad or any old coins less than 6 deep. You do an incredible job of hearing and isolating those extremely difficult signals that others miss. Congratulations!!! |)

I believe you are correct John. I think Angel needs to send it our way so we can have a look at it and fix it up for him. Don't mind the new serial number on it Angel...it's part of the fix
