We are in the process of taking steps to promote this forum to other detectorists out there who may not be aware that we are here. As a first step it would help us a lot if you would consider telling us how you became aware of this forum. It is not required of course, but the information will be useful to us. If you would consider posting a reply here with the information, or sending a PM to one of the admins or moderators telling us how you found out about us, we would most appreciate it. :)

I got a pm from Okiedigger about it. That would be the way to spread the word imo. Everyone send pm's to people they know on other forums about the forum here. It's the only way to fly. However we do understand that the holidays and usually Jan. and part of Feb. are the slowest months for forums of any kind, all of them on the net across the board. It's been that way for as long as I can remember.

Thank you and salutations most honored global moderator . Most curious to know how you figured out I have pitched my tent in California . The weather here in the San Francisco bay area is a bit cold and gray with possible showers looming but it is still a good day to hunt but it is very hard to find spots where the infidels haven't looted all the silver . Good thing I loaned cousin Habeeb money for engine overhaul on his cab he is letting me hold his Explorer SE as collateral . Have a good day my friend .

Hi Everyone,
One day as I sat down looking at some of the other forum's I belong to, I decided to type in metal detecting reviews and scrolled down several sites and I found this site. I checked it out, it seemed fresh and new with good ideas so I joined. I enjoy detecting and have been active in the hobby for 30+ years. I have hunted on land and underwater and have meet some great people that enjoy the hobby as much as myself. I like to see what other think and enjoy sharing ideas, you always can learn something new. Good luck to your site, I think you have a winner!

Howdy Folks!
I've seen Jack around at various times over the past 3 years or so, and then one day ran into him at Gold N Detectors in Golden Colorado. I was there to buy some stuff, and he was chatting with Wild Bill. While I'd noticed him at local doings, this was the first time I had to chat with him.

Somewhere along the line, he suggested I should give this forum a try. I joined up almost immediately. So if you check out how long I've been on the forum, you'll see it must have been March 8 or 9 of last year that he recommended this forum. But I was real active on another forum that is now busy imploding. Don't know if it is permitted for me to mention the name of that forum, but quite a few folks just arrived here from that chaotic environment. Glad to see other Adult Survivors of the Other Forum here! I won't mention the name, but it rhymes with Fights! And that's whats happening now!

Since the other forum went into the self destruct autosequence, I've decided to spend more of my time here and on one other forum. I'm too old to put up with shenanigans from people barely out of puberty who administer a forum like it is their own private fiefdom, and without any cumbersome oversight from a responsible adult! One of the things that I really like about this forum is that it is run by adults who treat other adults like... well... adults!

I also alert others on that other forum to the American Detectorist forum, and I hope some will come join us here as a result of my efforts. I'm also active in asking people to write letters to the ultimate responsible party for that other forum, but that's another whole can of worms.

So, the quick answer is I came to this forum based on Jack's recommendation.

Now if only it were easier to post a video on here I'd be as happy as a leper in a hot tub!

Blessings,
M-Taliesin

I learned about this site while cybersurfing the internet looking for different forums. I like the fact that this site is less clicky than others I have visited or joined. Keep up the great work all of you are doing here.

Actually, someone mentioned it to me at the Treasure Hunter site. Started there because to the monthlly give away, and have been a member there for several years. Unfortunately, their forums are kind of dead and I have learned more here in a few weeks than I did on their site in years.

I learned of this forum in an inspiring and informative article by, Angel Silver from Hunted-Out Sites in the November 2011 issue of Western&Eastern Treasures. I joined the day I read the article, and have benefitted very much. I am glad I found AD.

Todd , i felt like this forum you'd find more detectorists who do your type of detecting and were more local . you got hooked up with Heavymetalnut pretty quickly but i'm not so sure that that was a good thing :teasing: lol lol

Been a member of another forum for several years. Periodicaly I looked at other forums to see what is going on with other folks. I kept coming back to AD as the conversations seemed open and interesting. Decided to add my two cents to AD and see how things progress.

Signed up on the Friendly Metal Detecting forums back in late May when I got my Ace 350. Within a couple weeks I got a PM from someone named copper head telling me there were a pile of guys in CT and the general area. Very glad I got that PM.

You guys are way too nice. Must be something in the soil.

...if it still matters (seeing posts still being made) I belived it was google although it wasn't on the first or second or third attempts on searching. I know a ways back I was searching local lost treasure stories and coming up with TreasureNet and whatever the other one is. Somehow I used google, most likely on places to hunt, and came up with this site for the home page, maybe between google search pages 3 and 5. Never joined any other MD site, however I have been on other sites with the same ID ;)

I have spent a lot of time googling "metal detecting forum", which is how I stumbled upon this one. What struck me was that while reviewing the archives here, I couldn't find a single negative post from anyone. I am a member of another friendly forum, but American Detectorist is the friendlyest (sp) I've found, and where I call home.
