Partied with King George the ??

Decided to go out tonight after work. Spent about an hour and a half at this location. Was digging junk then the King George appeared. When this came out of the hole I stood up and looked around and to my surprise there wasn't a cellar hole in sight. Got a date of 1746 and I hope the pictures come out okay. This is my 3rd KG in my career and the first with a good readable date. Also got 3 wheats all in the 40's. I don't know if its a KG II or a KG III.

Congrats ...it's a KG II :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: The II is located at the 1 o'clock position on the front (bust side). Nice looking half penny thumbsup01

They are half pennies, cause a half penny was still worth something back then lol That was a half pennies worth of copper.

I have learned so much from this forum in the short time I've been a member. Not that I am likely to find any King George coin in Illinois, but at least I know what they are now. That's why I enjoy reading about finds like this so much, they seem so exotic to me.

My oldest is an 1820 LC I dream of finding a KG someday. But prob not in my neck of the woods (Kentucky) :)

Yes this is the oldest coin so far, I have another KG II but no date

you could still get an idea as to how old that other King George II copper is Al , as there were three different bust styles of that monarch. a young head , middle and old head varieties .

I still want my V3i. Prizm IV as a back up seems to be working out okay

hey Al heres some examples of the different King George II bust varieties .
the first two types are the most common found .


this first one is the young head type
from 1729-1739

heres the middle-aged head
from 1740- to 1750 , this particular coin is 1745

and the old type head is after 1750-1760
currently i have no later good example to show .
but heres the two close together (young and middle) and you can see the difference easier.

It is such an old coin and still in pretty good condition considering the age.
