Hello all,

But these are better then holding them in my hand under the light... I reshot some on my finds...

Paul the silver coins are very nice pictures with the right background :perfect10: (i would'nt change a thing) the darker coins , maybe a colored background or try casting the light across the coin to really see the detail stand out .

When you said you were making a new set-up I couldn't wait to see it.

It's hard to believe the great quality/detail of those shots with the camera you told me you're taking them with. :perfect10: :perfect10:

Really nice photographs. Any chance of posting a picture of your setup? What type of lights are you using?

Thanks

This will work great when you find a Double Eagle.

Rough coppers are definately a challenge... In macro mode the depth of field is greatly reduced, lighting is tricky, and without having 1,000 worth of good DSLR and lenses I have to get a little creative...

I played with lighting last night to no avail... so this AM I working on adjusting the angle of the camera, them played with coin angle and pushing the exposure +1.0... Then did a little adjusting in Photoshop (Brightness and contrast)

Here are a couple of updates... Its low tech right now with just a small piece of paper folded up to give me some angle on the coin towards one light...

Yes yes I'll get details of my setup up... Next will be some relics hanging in a deffuser cube...

HH ALL!

Very nice setup. Some time ago I used a professional setup for copying but I wouldn't want to spend that kind of money nor would I have the space to set it up. Your approach is more realistic for taking the occassional close ups.

Thank you for taking the time to take the pictures and posting them.

You are welcome! I use a Nikon Coolpix L19... I think I spend 85$ on it 2-3 years ago... It has a decent macro and 89$ for the rest... 5 bucks each for the clip on adjustable lamp units... So if you already have a camera with a decent macro... It's 100$ - pretty reasonable for what we do...
