Here's an old glasses case I dug some years back out of a dump site along the railroad line.

It was all scummy looking but upon closer inspection I found silver stamped on it. The word also tells the age as silver is an old stamp. Better check em all ! steve in so az

Thanks Steve. I had a civil war era boot plate in my garbage pile for about a month...until I saw someone posted one. Took mine out and cleaned it up.

Charlives - One time I dug what looked like a folded up pull tab. But as I was at an old CW fort site I took everything home. At home I gently straightened it and turned out to be a letter C -the only one left for a complete set of insignas from that fort. Here's a pic of them, steve

Very cool Steve!! What is the approximate age of the glass case? I love your military display...

Here's some old 'eye glasses' I almost passed up! They were about a foot deep. I never could find any online about this style -there are so many out there!

I did the same thing, only I saw one in Ask Mark Parker. I currently have over two 5 gal buckets of junk in my garage. Some rainy day........ that might get down to 1

Al - Much easier, more convenient and surer way to check things at home. Get a good drink & sit down to one bucket at a time :) Steve

Looks like it might have been plated silver, I've never seen silver turn any color but black from tarnish. Unless its been in a fire I would guess that could make it look like that.

good advice indeed . my last trip out i found a square meatl piece that was almost thrown away . i cleaned it up and it was a 50cent trade token from a local yarn mill that is now closed . :happydance01:
