Mystery 5c piece...

I found this coin/token today at a mansion built in early 1800's right in middle of downtown Lexington... It was next to a huge tree I'm talking a HUGE tree (where I imagined people catching some shade back in the day). It was on top of root at only about 2deep. VDI on my V3i was 52/53, so I thought it'd be a zilcoln or possibly an IH. Was surprised to find this! I guess it's bronze... No date, no nothing. I can't find it anywhere online.

I'm hoping someone knows what it is! :shocked01:

This is the front and back, or vice versa ---can't tell the obverse from the reverse lol

Yeah, that one's a real head scratcher. Maybe some kind of jukebox token? My Google search didn't turn up anything like it.

Mine neither... I searched through many images with different deviations of the search words. :dontknow:

Oh, also it is extremely thin and close to the size of a quarter! :thinkingabout:

Thanks for helping me look :)

You found it JT! |) Plugging in Vintage-Brass-Good-5-Cents-Tokens led me to some good info about the history of tokens. A lot of info :shocked04:stretcher: I plan to read it all eventually. What I have read is very interesting! I'm hoping to figure out a general age of it by reading it.

Thanks Angie! I really like coins because they (usually) lol have a date on them, but tokens are great because you can get a general age on them anyway. And they are so unique, more variety than coins.

I know what is. It's a 5 cent off token used at GOOD 'OLE TOM'S . It's a local joke tanacat. It could be a discount token like a coupon today or just a local pub token or soda or Pop machine as some call it. :interesting:
