A Couple Silvers To Break The Ice

I broke the dry spell with a couple silvers and two IHs in the last two hunts. One hunt on Saturday and a hunt this morning. Sunday and yesterday were spent in bed recovering from my stupidity Sunday hunt.

Anyway, the Standing Liberty and the 1928 Merc came from the same location. I have hunted this spot many times and it just goes to show, you never get everything, even if you think you have.

A 1987 IH and 1901 IH were taken at another spot on Saturday. I'm having a problem downloading from Photobucket for some reason and if I get them downloaded I will post them.

It felt good to get out this morning and I'll be there again tomorrow, weather permitting.

I originally thought I had a 1917 SLQ because it appeared the last number is a 7 and looked like the breast was exposed. However, after looking at the picture closer, I can see the shoulder strap of the chain vest that was added at a later date. So if the last number is in fact a 7 it would have to be a 1927.

Congrats on a couple of very nice silvers. You are correct that nothing is ever totally hunted out and it usually pays to keep hitting sites.

Hey fsa46 nice going. 1917 was a transitional year, they made both bare and mailed breast types. My type set holds a VF '17 s to represent the bare breast variety. Those worn dates are soooo tough to make out.

YT, unfortunetly it didn't turn out to be the 1917 I thought, the chain vest is worn off and I thought the bare breast was showing until I noticed the shoulder strap from the vest in the picture I posted. >:{ >:{

Great looking SLQ, and from what I've seen almost all of them found before 1924 won't have a date, but it doesn't take a thing away from the coin. They are tough to find and this is a great example of a good SLQ. The Merc is a dream too. :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

fsa46 - just flip any dateless SL over, no stars directly under the eagle and you have a type one, 1916-17. Your pic shows stars. My dad and I spent plenty of quality time pulling silver out of circulation in the late 60's. Seeing type 1 reverse always got myblood going...flip it over and blank date...arrgh.! Any SL is one of my favorite finds!
