This morning I took the E-Trac back to where I found three golds rings. I was looking for more gold so I was digging the lower CO's and came up with this necklace. I would think it's silver but it reads 12-20. Any ideas? It's marked Italy and there are other markings that I can't read with my jeweler's loupe. The ring is definitely junk.

Hey, I just took a closer look and found .925 so it's silver. Hmm. Low CO number for silver?

Nice Cross and Neckles! That is kind of weird. That this would give off such a low number! Is the .925 on the clasp? Perhaps maybe just the clasp is silver. What ever the case. It's a great find. I love religous finds! It was lost, buried, and then arose again. With the help of a metal detector.

aloldstuff: I'm going back to the 'jewelry store' today. This will be my 4th time. I think I can probably finish the area off but it may take 1 more day.

That is weird  :thinkingabout:
I wonder if it (necklace) was laying in a straight line or all balled up in the ground? If it was strung out straight, maybe the MDer was only seeing a small strip of silver so it designated a lower number :dontknow: But you'd think the cross would've gave of a nice strong signal. Is the cross stamped .925 too ?
Either way it's really nice find! thumbsup01
Congrats!!

Airtest the cross. If silver, it will come in in the 40s. You can get the low CO if you were just getting as piece of the chain (not the cross), but until you airtest or acid test, you have to be suspect. Good luck, and here's hoping its silver.

Thanks, guys. Only the clasp is marked .925. I air tested the cross separately and it came in at CO 20. Maybe it's pewter or something.

The jewelry store was not as generous today. I came home with a small silver ring and a couple pieces of junk jewelry. I only got to hunt for two hours because it started raining hard. >:\

I don't doubt it is silver... The Co numbers are low because it is a necklace... Necklaces play funny tricks on most detectors and almost never read up the same as a coin would. Sweet find!!
