I hit the surf a couple hours before low tide and hunted about 3 hours...a total bust. I headed home a grabbed a bite to eat and loaded up my truck with my land gear and headed out.

I'm sure glad I did. I hit a spot I had been to before that has been hunted fairly hard ( like most spots ), but I tried a new area. I found the Fugio and this 1742 Half Reale that is in terrible shape and was bent in half. However, it didn't deminish the thrill of finding it and I am glad a new area has opened that has the poteential for more nice finds. This is the same general area I found the 1712 Woods Halfpenny last March . Thanks for looking.

I would love to did a nice old copper like that. Even though the reale was bent,(how did you straighten it out?) I know it was thrilling to dig it up. Congrats on all your keepers

It didn't take much to straighten it because it's so thin, and being it was in terrible shape to start with, I went with it.

Love them both Frank. :smitten: I agree, finding such coins, even when in bad shape, does not diminish the thrill of the find.

hey Frank very sweet finds ( wish the fugio was better to id it crying01 ) the half reale can't be that year ( it wouldn't have Carlos III or a bust of a man on the obverse) so it has to be newer 1759-1788 . congrats my friend

Thanks for the help on the ID Dan, I knew I came to the right place. So, it appears what I MIGHT have is a 17?2. There's more out there Dan, let me know when you're ready.

Whohoo Frank! Two coin contemporaries - they circulated together. I swear I thought that silver would have split in half if unfolded, lucky you. Fugio coppers are near the top of my desirable list, having dug only one.
Congrats!!!

Great hunt and a fantastic coin. 1700 anything is A++ in my book.

Bruce, That crossed my mind before I did it but it is in such rough shape ( all gouged up ) that I went for it. It wouldn't take much to have two pieces of silver if I played with it anymore.

This is my second Fugio in about 5 months and both are in about the same condition. One of these days I hope to dig one as nice as the coins Dan found in his spill find. :daydream:

Hope you enjoyed your trip. :)

Two incredible finds, Frank! :wow:

What's the other side of the Fugio look like? Such a historic coin!

I must confess that I would have been tempted to straighten out the half reale too. Another increible coin no matter what the condition is!

Congrats on the terrific finds! |)

It was toasted Tony. The other one I found wasn't much better but at least I know I'm hunting in the right place.
