Yesterday I hunted at a town I've detected at several times, but I tried a new spot. There is a vacant lot right in the middle of town that has been for sale forever, so I decided to hunt the sidewalk strip between the walk and the street. I ended up with 2 Indian Heads dated 1880 & 1900, 7 wheat cents, 1 Barber Dime dated 1911, and a 1937 Merc.

Today I decided to drive to a small town that I had never been to before, but it is supposed to be one of the oldest towns in central Illinois, founded in 1825. When I got there I drove all over town checking out potentional hunting spots, but nothing looked better than the small public park right in the middle of town.

Right away I started finding wheat cents at this park, then only 20 minutes into my hunt I found a 1956 Washington Quarter. I took that as a good sign. At the end of the day I had 2 Indian Heads dated 1894 & 1901, a 1907 Barber Dime, a 1919 Merc, a 1959-D Rosie, a 1956 Washington, plus 12 wheat cents. There were also a ton of Memorial Cents at this park that were 5-6 deep, it was frustrating at times because they sounded so good.

Here are the Indian Heads from Saturday & Sunday:

A shot of the weekend's keepers:

An old pocket watch that I found yesterday. Looks like it once had a porcelain face. It is REALLY heavy:

A small dime-sized FFA pin that I found today. I think it's silver plated.
60832

An ornamental piece of metal that is nickel plated. I wonder what it's off of?

That's it! About 5 straight hours of hunting yesterday and 7 straight hours today. I'm wore out! Thanks for looking and happy hunting!

Congrats Tony on some nice keepers. You did very well. I'll bet that 1825 town has some nice old houses that have nice old doors that need knocking on too! Looking forward to our next hunt together. Best wishes and HH, Dave.

Congratulations on a super hunt Tony, very nice Barber there. It does drive you a bit crazy when you get those 6 copper memorials but they sound so good you just got to dig them.
