so yesterday night i did a bit of covert detecting and found this thingie behind where george washington was ment to of had a chat with that french bloke ? roughchan somthing or other ?.....anyway its brass or bronze and has the number 5 on the bottom and it looks like half of it got blown off at some point......any idears folks ?

hey Lee , its part of a crotal or sleigh bell . i believe they call them rumblers in your native tongue ;).

oh yer.....just done a search and your right....rumblers...us english av got some funny words..lmao.
so it looks like 18th century....would i be right ? and what does the 5 mean ?......size ?

its definately pre 1860 Lee and the 5 is the size number , heres some info on the petal bells type
