Historic land website?

Sorry if this isnt the place to post this, just joined this site.

Im wondering if anyone knows of a website where someone can go and find old historical maps of a town or area? I'm tried doing google searchs but come up empty handed. Im looking to find the history behind the areas around me and get an idea of where to focus looking while detecting.

the best places to find and learn about your area in my opinion would be your public library and local historical society . they and the town hall would keep a lot of local records and happenings about your localities , as far as maps their both good place as any .

I would start with your local, county or state historical society they might have old plat maps of your area. You could also check with the local library.

I agree. I have looked online till I'm blue in the face. When you do think you find something online, they want an arm and leg for it. I havent done it yet, but plan to go to the local library my self.
