MY 70th COPPER OF THE YEAR *1787 NEW JERSEY
went back up to a site i hit a few times and targets are pretty sparce.I dug my knee buckle here yesterday.3 hours into hunt with nothing to show but a few pieces of iron & a couple shotgun headstampsI decided to go way in back of cellar hole and was follwing a rock wall when BAM solid 80's on the vdi,5 inches I was mumbling please let it be one so,i can make it 70 on the year.sure enough there it was.a 1787 New Jersey colonial copper.
6 coppers from this site & a 1773 half reale.very quiet at this site but, when you hit a good target its old.also got this piece of unmarked silver.no clue what the heck it is or was.looks like it was repaired at one time.rang up in the quarter range.thought it was gonna be another coin

sweet looking New jersey Dave , i'm pretty sure its a Maris 58-n. variety its URS-7 which equals to 33 to 64 known but the bad news is there are quite a few in uncirculated condition so they start out at $100 in G-4 you can confirm this type if you can see a wierd tiny star just under the leftside plow handles as its known as star below plow handles - Camel head variety

thanks Dan! yep it is.got the confirmation from Don in SJ.here's what he said below..
Dave, got the verification that it is a 1787 Maris 58-n variety, late die state, (die break in front of the horse). I would go ahead and clean it carefully, get the crud off if you can and than perhaps we can see some of the most likely undertype. It appears the 56-58 n varieties were overstruck on Conn coppers I believe the reason that was done was because the NJ coppers were worth more than a Conn copper, so you take a Conn copper and strike over it with a NJ die and you made money!
