I am in Texas near Austin and wondering if there are any clubs in the area. I don't have a dector yet and would like some ideas about what to get.

Welcome to the forum and the hobby from SE Wisconsin. Good luck getting started. Do your research and choose a detector that is in your price range and from one of the major manufacturers. Your best bet would be to find a multi line dealer near you. I'm sure they could set you up with the right detector and Equipement.
Welcome to the forum from Mississippi. Type of detector depends a lot on what kind of hunting you plan to do. Keep checking back and read all you can. Research! Again, welcome.
