So this could be quite the interesting find if it does turn out to be what I think it is..
On the very last signal of the day my friend dug this closed container. We decided to go home and give it a light wire brush to see if we could carefully get it open and see what was inside.
We eventually got it open and it looks to be filled to the top with what we think is tobacco. It's obviously 150+ years old so it won't be in prime condition. There's no way dirt could get into/be filled to the brim of a closed container. It doesn't smell like dirt either. It also has a tobacco type texture. The cap has some writing but it is difficult to make out
Any thought??
