It was actually in my plug only about two inches deep. I thought it was junk, but the E-Trac had a nice flutie silver sound to it almost to good to be true. Actually thought it was a state quarter at first...
Those Capped Bust quarters are larger in diameter than other later quarters. They are 27mm in diameter, all other quarters from seated to present are 24.3mm in diameter, a very noticeable difference.
I think I would die of shock if I ever found one!

That truly is a beautiful coin. I've never seen one before. That's going right to the top of my wish list.
Congrats :wow:

It was my first though when I saw after breaking the plug, but once I had it in my hand I knew it was something else. It also seems to be a bit thinner than today's quarter.

Absolutely beautiful quarter and a find of a lifetime!!! :perfect10: :perfect10: Congratulations!
I love that 'flutey' sound on the E-trac :smitten:
And by the way - I think parks are in your comfort zone now! |:cheering:
Re: 1818 Liberty Cap 25 C.
Again thanks to all comments. I knew it was a good find, but its now setting in how nice of a find it actually is. <:
I'm still not a fan of parks, but yes I will be heading back and looking for more
Re: 1818 Liberty Cap 25 C.
It's a banner find for sure (I'll get it up there), and may very well be a coin of the month win. It would be my bet. We shall soon see.
Lots of stuff left in parks.

This spring I haven't been able to get much detecting in. My daughter's softball and work have kept me very busy. Most of the fields are planted or the hay is to high to swing so my cousin and I tried our luck in some small parks located along the river. Parks are way out of my comfort zone but since I took an extra day off I wasn't going to waste it. Lots of trash and clad but I did find my oldest US Silver coin. 1818 Liberty Cap Quarter.
BIG congrats chief! One great score for any of us! Great shape and a keeper for life! HH.....

You probably already know this but don't even breathe on that coin lol Seriously, that patina needs to stay....never , ever clean it. It would lose a lot of value. It has got to grade AU, certainly XF for sure.

10-4! I've only rinsed it off. I think I'm going to send it out for grading.

Wow! :shocked01: Whata find! :perfect10:
It's hard to believe a quarter that old is still in a public park and hasn't been scoped up by previous hunters. 8/
And only a couple of inches deep! :wow: It gos to show the old saying no place is ever hunted out still holds true. thumbsup01
Outstanding find Chief! |:cheering:
Congrats!

Congrats!
Thanks! It's not a well know park and actually in kind of a rural area. I don't think its been detected at all. There are power lines all over the small park that would probably deter most detectorist.
