Jar lid
Hi all,
Researching a park near me i got some interesting history facts. Apparently the place has a history of activity with French traders on this site and mapping done as far back as the early 1600s! Previous to that it was a traditional Indian summer camp with many mounds present that of course were subsequently dug up in the name of early archeology. Being on a river, there has been a lot of travel and activity here. Unfortunately the place has been pounded to death, and only a few items of note are left which are at exceptional depths. One item I found is an old copper screw cap which looks similar to a mason jar cap, but a little smaller. It had a couple small shards inside that could be porcelain? They are quite thin, maybe 1/16 inch thick. The cap is also thin and brittle, but has some decorative stamped curly designs. Any ideas of age or use? It was found at around 18 inches down with my 11 inch coil.

I think it may be a vintage Pond's Cold Cream jar lid. They had an ornate logo on them.

I did a trace with the paint program. The sketch sort of looks like the initials S&J. Sorry, my mouse sketching is a bit crude.

OK. Could it be J&J as in Johnson and Johnson? The milk glass shards make me think along the lines of a cosmetic jar.

Possibly cosmetics, but the "letters" are not the same

OK. I googled milk glass jars and the majority of them contained cosmetics, perfumes or remedies for what ails you. However not many show a picture of the lid and a search of S&J or S J didn't bring up too much.

Yep, I tried the same, same results
