Thanks everyone, I went back this AM and dug a CT copper and MORE shoe buckle parts.
Still more stuff there? Wow. Good enough place to get lucky twice. Looks like an '87. I can't zoom well enough and yes I could try Internet for photos to try an match..
wow Drew , looks like you found a stock or butt plate from an old musket too! congrats ...
any scroll or tool marks on it ??
Yeah, Jim I thought it was 87 also but I wasn't sure. Thanks.
Dan, I was going to post the following pic of that musket butt with the CT copper because I thought it interesting but I didn't know what it was. Thanks for the ID!
Oh....and I almost forgot, that large chape was half sticking out of the ground! It was on the lip of a collapsed part of the hole. I found it under leaves while standing IN the hole.
...and the copper was only two inches deep. Go figure.
Holy cow Drew!! :shocked05: You guys out east are killing me with you guys finding all these Reales!:envious:
Sweet, sweet find!
Congrats!!
Real nice silver.
Gary
Drew , I'm thinking the stock plate is a variant of one of the brown bess models but could still date this piece anywhere from about 1722 to well after the 1810.
