We went out today
in slushy,muddy forests
found nothing but snow
Digging in the dirt
I could not believe my eyes
Hibernia, YES!
Vacant stone cottage
Ivy trails into darkness
Where windows once stood
Excellent!
I'll throw in one more:
The thrill is the search.
Treasure is not the reward,
The hunt is the prize.
Nice!
Awake before dawn
the old mansion is calling
unearthed mystery...
The boys are screaming
I need a well-deserved break
Be back by nightfall...
Wow, very cool finds.
don't find those in Illinois
Well, at least I don't
To the waters edge
Swishing on the outter ledge
Coins, not in the hedge!
Detecting the ground.
A faint beeping sound abounds
Digging silver coin
If life is beach
Go swishing and find a leech
Coins in the breach.
Last chance to get a haiku in and win the tool belt. My daughter (English teacher) is coming over for a visit tomorrow and she will pick a winner. Lots of great entries so far. If you haven't participated in haiku madness yet, now's your chance.
Here's another for you cellar hole hunters:
Nature rules the night
Cold white blanket on the ground
Cellar ghosts will sleep
The ground is frozen
can not dig past the surface
just waiting for spring
It is four AM
Going to my honey hole
Don't wait up for me
Searching for treasures
Ox shoes and stinkin' Lincolns
Crying in my car
The dirt covers it
Ding! A hero picks it up
It's coin of the month
...this one is for the poets...it has onomatopoeia, alliteration, parallel construction, and anaphora...
Beep beep in the woods
Hidden treasures, honey hole
Beep beep in the field
....from my wife....
Mud on my clean floor
Rusty metal everywhere
Will you please clean up?
 Love that last one Drew! My husband can relate... I think all of our spouses can.
OK, I printed out the haikus, showed them to my daughter the English teacher, and the winner of this year's American Detectorists Haiku Madness is ................

Detector screaming.
Excitement, my heart pounding.
Aluminum can.
Tony Two-Cent came in second with:
at the vast old park
a deep gold coin in the soil
someday I will find
Digger Don came in third with:
Wow, very cool finds.
don't find those in Illinois
Well, at least I don't
Mrs. OxShoeDrew gets an honorable mention from me for her brilliant impersonation of my wife with:
Mud on my clean floor
Rusty metal everywhere
Will you please clean up?
My daughter said she was surprised at the quality of the haikus. I am not quite sure what she meant by that, but there were a lot of good ones. Congrats to Ronandari. We can all relate to your haiku. Just send me a PM with your address and I'll get that Husky tool belt in the mail to you. Thanks to everyone that participated. :thumbsup01:
Jeff
Thanks Jeff to you and your daughter. That was one of the most creative contests ever, I was counting syllables for days and had a great time. I'll put that pouch to good use since my current pouch doesn't hold enough stuff.
P.S. My wife really connected with Mrs Oxshoe on this
Cheers
Ron
Congrats, Ron! Your haiku was great! :clapping:
And thanks for the very fun contest, Jeff! :thumbsup02:
