Best how-to, technical books/websites etc

I get a bit OCD when I start a new hobby and devour all kinds of technical information. I read the discussion about the comparison between the different coil types and there was a page from a book by Andy Sabisch posted.

So I'm here asking for some links or books etc that will help me quench my thirst for knowledge. I'm pretty tech savvy (BS Math/Computer Science, Ham radio, beer/wine making ...) so now I have another hobby to read about.

I love to hike in the Western US and can see myself looking for gold in some very out of the way places.
