The corn is cut! A return to the spring honey field doesn't disappoint!

On a whim, drove 45 minutes out to one of my honey fields and saw the corn had been cut. :thumbsup02: Spent about 4 hours there at one of the new home sites I've found in this field, but couldn't thoroughly detect last spring before planting. Mostly common New England fare here, but happy to add 3 more coppers to the collection along with 14 buttons, 4 musket balls and a half of a bat wing buckle. The coppers are 1) a holed no-date KG2, 2) a nearly wiped KG2 and 3) 1850 Braided Hair LC. Also got an 82 signal at 5" about 100 yds off the road that got me excited - 200P clad dime. :bangahead02: Really???? The Braided Hair has the most unusual green patina I've ever seen on a copper. Thinking I'll just leave it that way, but have any of you folks dug a copper looking like this? Thanks for looking and HH!

Lots of great finds! And yeah, I get quite a lot of old coppers with that "patina". I'm pretty sure it's the copper "goo" rom being in wet ground and fertilizer that eventually dries out and attaches to the coin.

Nice finds! You sure the braided hair didn't have a friend with it? Looks like the kind of corrosion you get when two coins are touching in the ground. Can't wait to see what else you get there! HH, Dave.

Thanks Jared. Yes, this field is loaded with them. 20+ and counting, plus 100+ buttons.

It's always exciting to see a permission that the corn has finally been cut. Congrats on your finds, especially the coppers. On youtube scindercoop always finds coppers with th same type of green goo on them. I believe that he is from your neck of the woods.

I've been really fortunate this year Dan. 3 of my permission fields have been virgin. 1 decent field, and the other 2 just great. This latest field has us scratching our heads of just how much stuff has been found here (~ 25 coppers, 1/2 Reale, my 2 Reales, ~ 150 buttons and other great relics). I have two theories: 1) either there was a tavern or a place of commerce there, or 2) someone buried a jar of coins, and it was lost to history, eventually being scattered all over.

Sounds like an early old homesite in the field that was moved or just burnt down and now forgotten .

Great finds! That unusual patina could have been from another coin in the hole.
