I have found only 3 seated dimes and they all came from the same site, but not the same hole.
Those look like the hooks that are on homes and utility poles to attach overhead phone wires.
A nail or lag screw is driven through the hole to mount it.
Excellent finds...especially the 2 cent. It cleaned up real well. My only 2 cent find is toast.

That's a great find, Don. The Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad was bought out by Illinois Central RR. The logo on your RR tag was used from 1896 to 1923. I found one just like it over 5 years...
Now that is a very cool find. Gotta love those old portraits, but why people very seldom smiled for the camera back then is a mystery to me.
