A button's simple construction , composition , shank area can be enough sometimes to give you a good indicator to its time era as well.

Drew it was a solid 95 on the deus , a very fine almost horizonal line on the xy screen so it was either a copper or an oxknob

I haven't been out in weeks , work has been busy and I (literally) have been doing lots of mechanical work on my jeep . So it was extremely good to just get out and swing the coil again , just a half...
it snowed twice (for only a few minutes each time) , lot of hiking with little rewards but i so needed the exercise and did enjoy being in the woods again . i did sneak out a decent Connecticut...
Good stuff Drew , i finally just got out today for a few hours . The bridle shield with the prince of Wales is always a cool find .

Dave is correct ,pseudo hallmarks are a thing were very common on plated or "tinned" examples of utensils .

its remarkably similar to a "Luckenbooth" brooch we rarely find here Dave , maybe your item's origin somehow coincides with them . great find !

The better the iron the worse it usually sounds to a detector , high carbon steel holds up much better to the elements compared to wrought iron but wrought iron generally sounds more "diggable" ....

the iron will be sounding really good for a while until the ground dries out some but iron shoe buckles are always a welcome sight to me , congrats on your first one this year !

cool place and cool coin , many cultures used the letter "I" for both the "J and I" until the mid 1700's , also on many of my King George coins "Georgius" is spelled with a "U and sometimes a V"...
