Antique farm implement worth thousands?

lol JJ hey well you never know, some are! This one was 8 down next to house built I think in early 1800's. I'm thinking some sort of hoe--- searched through hundreds of farm implements to no avail. Anyone know right off hand?

ha ha Okay I admit we have absolutely no farmers in my family so I'm perty naive in the farming world. Pretty strange being from Kentucky huh? lol

Actually my dream is to be a farmer- some acreage, a big garden, goats, a few chickens and of course some barn cats

Tana, It's an amazing and rare paleo point. Really, really rare and exquisitely knapped lol Actually I'm not a farmer either. I throw those iron items into a bucket. Not to be confused with Angel's bucket rofl Mine is a junk bucket. But it does look like it would cut some rows in the dirt for planting. Hope someone can shed some light on it for you.

rofl now that you mention it actually is the shape of paleo George! That reminds me I was going to share my arrowhead collection in the off topic section... I'm sure there's a few AH hunters around here

I bet that's what it is... Strange thing it was buried beneath all this rock rubble. It sang out like it was a silver dollar 93/94 isn't that odd for a piece of iron

Tana ,when you get big #s like that always watch the bar graph to see it it goes positive or negative. Negative for the iron.Check a few digs like that and I think you will find this as a way to tell big iron. Double check a few targets digging them to affirm this. Good Luck Yazoo

Iron (especially bigger pieces or round pieces) always give machines a hard time. It's just the nature of the technology. Luckily, it really doesn't happen very often, compared to how many holes we dig in a year. Unluckily, they are usually very deep and hard to get to lol

it is an odd piece of iron almost in the shape of a stockplate from an old long rifle but it looks just a little big for that ,
electrolysis might bring out more features . the wetter the ground is the better those pieces sound in the ground too.

Not an expert in anything really but it looks like the shape of a human foot. I know we had several shoe makers up here and it looks like it is missing the base. Either way, I like the old iron finds. Most of the stuff I find up here was hand forged and very interesting. Dennis

Tana,it's a furrow plow tooth,used to lay off rows for planting and turning over the soil,it broke off and was tossed with the pile of rocks,most farmers years ago,would pick up all the rocks out of a field and toss them in a pile to use later,I would have dug that VDI too,could have been a nice cache under those rocks

Looks like the blade from a cultivator to me,they would go between rows of young plants weeding and tilling the soil as they were dragged behind the horse or tractor

Back in the day we used to call them a harrow bit, but the ones we had were more spike like.. Neat find

I am with the cultivator idea.

Newer equipment is similar but more pointed and on both ends as they can be switched around as they wear down



Older equipment though, they were a bit different like this pic shows..
