    Fantastic find!

I love those older seated dimes, especially the ones with the arrows at the date and the mint mark inside the wreath on the reverse. I've never found one that old, my oldest is 1857.

    Congrats on the wonderful find!

That's a good find! But I would have that one checked out. The detail looks a little off and I think it might be counterfeit (I'm a coin dealer) No big deal even if it is. Some of the counterfeit seated dimes actually worth more.

Hey, Maybe It's just the picture quality then that makes it look a little off because it is blurry in sections. I meant no harm. And I only said I would get it looked at, I wan't implying that I was certain it was fake, just that it looked odd. I stand corrected. Thanks for your post. I have found fake seated coins before (not detecting) and some of them look very good. Could you maybe try to take another picture? I would love to see it clearly in all It's beauty as the detail on it is amazing. It is an incredible find and I'm really happy for you. Please understand I meant no harm and would never say for sure unless I was 100% certain. That's why I said "might". I just like to caution folks, I wasn't trying to underestimate your knowledge. I'm just used to talking with people that have a very limited knowledge of coins (even other detectorists) and I spoke to soon. I should have inquired with you first before making a recommendation to double check it. My sincere apologies.

And what I meant to say also is I was only raising a caution flag because the blurry pictures, which is what I now assume makes it look strange, because you are certain of It's authenticity. I'm sure in hand it looks very nice. I don't think it was fair for you to question my expertise due to the fact that I'm going off of a very blurry photo. But It's okay. We both made premature remarks that were better off left unsaid. And I'm willing to look past it. I hope you have a great year hunting as well.

Fake or counterfeit coins are not uncommon to find while detecting John (we find counterfeit coppers here in New England all the time) , we've had a few members find counterfeit seated coins before .Remember picture quality can make "fake" coins look more authentic and make authentic coins "fake " looking , I saw no disrespect in JdsCoins advise about asking for a second opinion about the coin in question John as he said a lot of the counterfeits are worth a bit more than the real ones.

We've been lucky here to see quite a few rare coins come through. There has been a Higley copper, Pinetree 6 pence, 1793 Chain cent, the rarest variety of Fugio copper, and a very rare Connecticut copper. I don't think I got them all but that's enough Oh and I think some 1877 Indians were found too. Don't give up just yet on the rare one finding it's way into one of your plugs John. It may just happen next time out In colonial coinage up in our neck of the woods, we get a lot of counterfeits, usually Machin Mills, but some Geo II's too. I've found a fake Standing Liberty Quarter and a fake Morgan Dollar. Gave them to a friend that collects fakes. Ironically, it is the only old dollar coin I have ever found
Finding relics is in my blood

I saw the pine tree 6 pence, but I'll have to look for some of those older threads. That's some amazing stuff! And you're right. You just never know when something good is going to pop out. The day before I found my gold coin I was daydreaming and wondering if it would be a lifelong quest. And heck, I was BEYOND stoked when I found an 1897 full liberty barber quarter worth about $40 and a 1921 merc worth about $60. It doesn't take much to make me happy. A gram of silver or a wheat with some sunshine is okay in my book.
