What to look for in a belt pouch?

Thus far I've only used my old newspaper boy shoulder bag when detecting. It's too big and awkward to use. What features and size should I look for in a belt pouch? I do mostly dry land detecting. Once a year to an ocean beach. It's hard to tell size and build quality from pictures on the internet. I really don't care who's logo is on it. Thanks

Not that I'm a guru or anything, but I prefer a vest. The belt pouches just didn't feel comfortable. And the vest spreads any weight across my shoulders. I'm currently using a skeet shooters vest. I like it because of the big deep pockets, and it's long enough to keep my butt crack from scaring innocent bystanders. LOL!
